Martyrs day in Nepal: Martyrs’ Day is celebrated in Nepal every year on the 16th Magh in memory of the martyrs. On the 16th of Magh, Nepalis remember and respect the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy in the country.

We will discuss about the four martyrs of Nepal today. While the government is announcing new martyrs every year, perhaps no one knows how many martyrs there are in Nepal.

In this article, I would like to inform you about the 4 martyrs of Nepal who were killed by the Rana regime in 1941 while fighting for the establishment of democracy in our country.

Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Ganga Lal Shrestha are the 4 martyrs of Nepal. In fact, Martyrs’ Day is celebrated in Magh in memory of these four martyrs.

Lakhan Thapa is considered to be the first martyrs of Nepal. Gangalal Shrestha is the youngest martyr of Nepal.

Shukraraj Shastri Martyrs of Nepal
  • Shukra Raj Shastri was born in 1894 A.D. (1950 B.S.) in Varanasi, India.
  • His father is Madhav Raj and mother is Ratna Maya Joshi.
  • The then government accused him of eight false charges and hanged on the night of 1997 Magh 10 on a Khari tree at Pachali, Teku, of Kathmandu.
  • Shukra Raj Shastri is the first of four martyrs of Nepal.
  • The first person to use the word ”Jai Nepal” was Shukraraj Shastri.
Martyrs of Nepal – Dashrath Chand
  • Dasharath Chand was born in Baskot, Baitadi in Ashadh 1960 B.S.
  • Dasharath Chand’s real name is Sher Bahadur Chand.
  • Dasharath Chand is also known by the nickname of Myla Shahid.
  • On magh 14, 1997, Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand were shot dead at Shobha Bhagawati.
Martyrs of Nepal – Dharma Bhakta Mathema
  • Dharma Bhakta Mathema was born in 1966 Ashoj 9 in Ombahaal, Kathmandu.
  • On Magh 12, 1997, Dharma Bhakta Mathema was hanged on a siphal tree on Kathmandu at midnight.
Martyrs of Nepal – Ganga Lal Shrestha
  • Ganga Lal was born to father Bhakta Lal and mother Mohani kumari Shrestha on 1975 B.S in Ramechhap District.
  • Gangalal Shrestha is the youngest martyr of Nepal.
  • On magh 14, 1997, Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand were shot dead at Shobha Bhagawati.
